Ever since Jen Ledger replaced original Skillet drummer Lori Peters in 2008, the band has not only enjoyed her aggressive drum style, but realized that she has a cutting-edge voice, and eventually made her co-lead singer. On Unleashed, she continues to produce simple, creative, and powerful beats that complement the lyrical message.
“Stars”
Ledger plays a transitional fill (1:52), going from sparse eighth-notes to powerful sixteenth-notes, all within one measure. It is the perfect connective tissue to a funky chorus that uses both eighths and sixteenths. A clever switch to crash cymbal in the last line provides much needed wash during the synthesizer interlude.
