Nirvana is a popular rock band from the ’90s, and they have been able to influence modern music culture.

The group was founded by bassist Krist Novoselic and guitarist/lead singer Kurt Cobain.

Huge contributions to the bend were drummers like Chad Channing before recruiting Dave Grohl.

They became widely known for their first single, “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” the first single from their best-selling second album Nevermind.

In this article we will discuss all of their drummers.

Who was Nirvana’s first drummer?

Aaron Burckhard 1987-1987

If you ever listened to Nirvana’s “With the Lights Out”, you heard Aaron Buckhard’s drumming; he was the first drummer for Nirvana.

He played at their first live show, a 1987 house party in Raymond, WA, and radio broadcasts.

One report states that after Burckhard skipped many practice sessions without explanation, Kurt Cobain became furious with him, leading to his dismissal from Nirvana as well as all other bands he had worked with since then because’ “all members are expected take their music seriously.”

Dave Foster 1988-1988

Dave Foster is the second Nirvana drummer, but he only played in a few performances before being fired.

The main reason for him getting fired was because Dave lived too far away from where they rehearsed, and it would take hours for them to get there just so he could attend practice with them every day of his week-long jail sentence waiting time.

When Dave found out he had been fired, it came as a shock. He was only aware of the fact when he saw an advertisement for them playing.

Kurt wrote him a letter about this which he never sent.

Chad Channing 1988-1990

Channing was a band member between 1988 and 1990 – performing on their debut album “Bleach”.

He parted ways with Nirvana due to creative differences, as they said.

Chad stayed friends with the guys from the band, and as he says, “Our differences were strictly on a musical level”.

He also says that he has no regrets and that everything happens for a reason. A few years after leaving the band, he ran into them on a gig and had a chance to meet his replacement, Dave Grohl.

He was under a good impression of how cool guy Dave is.

Dan Peters 1990-1990

Same as Dave Foster, Dan spent a very short period in Nirvana.

He played drums for Nirvana, playing only one single, “Silver,” and appearing live in Seattle.

After disbanding with Nirvana, he continued to play with the band Mudhoney while Dave Grohl took his place in Nirvana.

Which member of the foo fighters was previously the drummer for Nirvana?

Dave Grohl 1990-1994

Dave Grohl holds the record of having the longest tenure in Nirvana.

He played drums on all Nirvana albums, including “In utero” and “Unplugged” ones.

Buzz Osbourne, a member of punk band Melvins, introduced Dave Grohl to Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic in 1990. Later that year, he managed to get on the audition for Nirvana.

When he played for them, both Cobain and Novoselic thought that this guy would be perfect in their band. He had everything they were looking for: “He was a hard hitter with an amazing eye sight.”

Dave played on Nirvana’s most selling album, “Nevermind,” sold in more than 4 million copies.

After Kurt Cobain’s death, what band was founded by Nirvana drummer Dave?

The Answer is The Foo Fighters.

Dave Grohl is the founder member of the Foo Fighters. Nirvana ended its four years together with a stint at Lollapalooza and a set of three US dates with Bob Dylan, playing what would be their last show at Seattle’s Pier 34 on March 1.

The Foo Fighters released its debut album in 1995 and kept on playing for Nirvana fans.

Their first show was at the Jabberjaw in Los Angeles, and they made about $125.

The Foo Fighters were not Nirvana, but their music was inspired by Nirvana.

Was Dave Grohl kicked out of Nirvana?

Nirvana reached the end of the road when Kurt Cobain, the lead singer, committed suicide on April 8, 1994.

Grohl mentions that the band had emotional dysfunctionality that would disappear when they put on the instruments and started playing.

However, Cobain’s death was the reason Nirvana disappeared.

Cobain left a suicide note stating that he doesn’t feel excited about his music anymore, and it’s hard for him to find true happiness and connect with people.

It’s better to burn out than to fade away, he said.

What happened to the band Nirvana after Kurt Cobain died?

Nirvana is one of the most successful rock bands in history. They’ve sold over 75 million records and counting, making them more popular than many pop stars! Without their iconic sound of frontman Kurt Cobain’s talent, there wouldn’t be much for this genre called Grunge.

After his death, the band ended.

Where does Dave Grohl rank as a drummer?

In the world of rock drummers, Dave ranks pretty high. He is considered to be one of the best rock drummers today.

Dave also sings, plays the guitar, writes, and produces, which ranks him pretty high in the world of musicians, not just drummers. His more than successful band The Foo Fighters confirms that.

Now, if we try to see a bigger image in the world of rock drummers, Grohl is somewhere in the middle and can’t be compared to the masters such as Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Bill Cobham, Tony Williams…

Who is Dave Grohl’s Favourite drummer?

5 of Dawe’s favorite drummers are Neil Peart, John Bonham, Ringo Star, Stewart Copeland, and Meg White.

On the question in one interview, could he be able to replace Neil pEart he answered:” ‘I’m not physically or musically capable, but thanks for the offer.’ Neil Peart, that’s a whole other animal, another species of drummer”.

For John Bonham, he said that he is the best drummer of all time.

For Ringo, he says that he is not to technically advance, but that is not important anyway. Ringo sits in the song with a special kind of feel, which is what matters.

He likes unique drummers that you can recognize right away. He mentions Charlie Watts, Stewart Copeland, Meg White, and the two mentioned above as a good examples of a unique sounding drummer.
